Thanks again to everyone who has helped me with other questions. I'm using
a 2003 server inside a VM2005. What I would like to do is:

Save a base setup.
Then install whatever apps I want to screw around with.
Then blow away that setup and restore my base setup to start playing again.

I've been doing that by copying the base setup to a separate folder.
Playing around as I want to.
Then stopping the VM, deleting the files
Then copying the backup files back to their original location.

Is there some other way to accomplish what I want? It doesn't seem VS2005
has any built in provisions for doing this.

Create a similar vm for test purposes and then try using differencing disks
to see if they accomplish what you need. It would not be the right solution
if you make changes to the parent .vhd, however, such as data updates.

Have you looked at differencing disks? It might be a bit quicker than what
you're doing now, depending on how big your virtual drives are.
