Message:No native way. You'd need a third party application such as FabulaTech's USB
over Network product. I've used it and continue to use and like it. See my
blog posts on it if you want some details. Not free, and not even
particularly cheap. But it works, and works well.

I am guessing a virtualization MVP might have a better shot than a SQL guy.
Hint, hint.

How does VMWare Player allow Hyper-V to access USB? Hyper-V and
Player are completely different products. ESX Server doesn't offer
USB either.

I have successfully used a networked USB connector from the company
SILEX to use USB protection dongles inside VPC2007 XP guests. It works
quite nicely. :-)
And it is not very expensive either, probably in the $60-70 range.
They have two versions, the one I have used is this:
http://www.silexamerica.com/products-aamp-services-headermenu-28/29
and the higher speed one is:
http://www.silexamerica.com/products-aamp-services-headermenu-28/30
For both you need to install the software downloaded from the SILEX
site, the version on the accompanying CD is too old...
These units have a single USB connector, but you can connect a
standard USB hub to this and then attach your devices to the hub to
expand the number of devices served.
