We have a Windows Server SBS 2000 DC that needs to be virtualized using
SCVMM. It is my understanding that an agent needs to be installed on the
source server but does the P2V process do anything to the source DC? More
importantly, if the P2V process fails will the source DC continue to work
correctly?

The PtoV process creates a virtual "clone" of the target system and has
minimal effect on the original. Every time I have done it I turn off the
original, turn on the Virtual, and let things run. Haven't tried it with a
DC lately, but I have been thinking of doing that as an experiment.
