Can"t ping hyper-v host from management station - normal?

Hi,

I have a server-grade double port NIC in my Win Core 2008 x64 server, with
Hyper-V enabled.

Both interfaces on the server NIC have been configured with static IPv4
addresses on the same subnet, and both are live.

Only one External network is setup on the Hyper-V host - no internal or
public, and this has been bound to the first of the NIC interfaces. The
second interface is "redundant".

I have enabled remote management going through John Howard's notes and
everything is working very well. The only thing is I can't ping either of
the server interfaces. Is this normal? The management station (Vista x64)
and Hyper-V host are on two different networks with a router in between
them. I have configured the routing just fine and PING (ICMP) is allowed
in
both directions across the firewall. I can see from the logs that the
PINGs
from the management station to the Hyper-V host are getting through the
firewall unfettered, they just aren't answered by the host. I can,
however,
ping the management station from the Hyper-V host, and from within a VM
running on the host. What gives??!!

I was hoping to configure use the second interface as a backup. I believe
it is recommended to have two NICs on your Hyper-V host.

TIA,

Jarryd
