Promiscuous Mode on a virtual NIC

Hi,

I'm using Virtual Server 2005 and running Win2k3 inside a VM. I
realized (after a couple of days of testing) that i cant enable
promiscuous mode on the virtual adapter inside the VM. I found some
postings on the net with the same conclusion, but dont see an an
authoritative posting. Is there a Microsoft page that documents this
behaviour, and possibly provides some more detail on this ?

Secondly, in case the virtual NIC cant enable promiscuous mode,
shouldnt an NDIS OID to set the packet filter to promiscuous mode
(OID_GEN_CURRENT_PACKET_FILTER = 0x20) fail ? This looks like a bug in
the virtual NIC implementation, but i could be wrong. Is there a good
reason why it doesnt ?

Thanks,

Gaurav
