How to virtualize AD domain comntroller

Hi:

We are attempting to virtualzie several of our servers into a test
environment. We have three servers that we wanted to start with. One runs
SQL 2005, the second runs SharePoint (and uses the first server where SQL is
installed) and the third an active directory domain controller.

This produced two quetsions we have not been able to resolve:
1: We used Storage Craft to make an image of all three machines. When we
went o create a new VM and then reinstalled the backup images that worked on
all three machines. No errors. The SQL server and SharePoint server both
booted up. The AD server am up with a DIRECTORY SERVICES error stating that
it could not log on and prompted us to reboot into Directory services
Recovery Mode. We have done similar restores with Microsoft SBS servers
which also have NTDS and we were wondering what happened and how to fix this?
2: We want t preserve the security from the SharePoint (MOSS) and SQL
servers so we can do testing. So we were thinking that we could put the
three VM's on an isolated network by themselves on a localized swicth
(separted from the LAN). We attempted to connect the SharePoint VM to the
SQL vm and the SharePoint server could not find the configuration database.
Has anyone resolved this?

Thank you for your help

Chuck
