Comm between two physical hosts

Message:

I have a question on how communications takes place between virtual machines
that exist between two physical servers.

For example, let's say I have two physical servers and to keep it simple I
have one virtual machine running on each physical server. Each physical
server is connected to each other with a crossover cable:

VS1
IP Address: 10.50.0.1

VS2
IP Address: 10.50.0.2

VM1 (located on VS1)
IP Address: 10.50.0.10

VM2 (located on VS2)
IP Address: 10.50.0.20

I've tested this so I know it works but how does VM1 successfully ping
(communicate) with VM2? Is this a feature of Virtual Server 2005? It seems
as if each virtual server is listening for MAC address broadcasts and
passing the communication along to the appropriate VM.

I assume this will work if I include additional physical servers VS3, VS4,
etc. as long as they are kept within the same broadcast domain?

Mike
