Virtual guest services won"t install on a P2V Conversion

Ok, for a newbie with virtualization I've had pretty good luck on my Windows
Server 2008 standard server with hyper-v. So far I've successfully installed
and frequently use a Vista guest, a Windows 2003 standard server guest, and
I even got Ubuntu up and running.
So, I got this great thought that since my workaday laptop (XP Pro, SP2) is
getting pretty old, why don't I try a P2V conversion, and run it as a guest
on my Windows 2008 server. Using my Technet Plus subscription, I downloaded
and installed System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008. After a successful
install, I tried the P2V conversion (online), and everything went well
except I got the error 13233, error installing virtual guest services. The
error message said look for help on the Virtual Guest Installer but I've had
no luck finding any help there. Then I went ahead anyway and fired up the
virtual laptop. It started ok, asked for my domain credentials ok, then said
I needed to activate Windows, which I'm trying to do, but I'm looking at a
blank screen, status: running, with no progress. So my two questions are
(and sorry for the long post),
1. What steps can I take to get the Virtual Guest Services installed?
2. How do I deal with this Windows activation problem.

Thanks in advance for any advice.
