Increasing disk size

I have a virtual machine that was created that has a Dynamic disk, it states
in the settings that the max size is 16GB and is currently expanded to 7.6GB,
but it seems to now only have about 1.71 GB left which makes it around only
10GB

How do I increase the size so it can use the full 16GB dynamically? I have
15GB left on the host Virtual Server 2005 machine, is this what is limiting
it?

C: 7.81GB Healthy 8.18GB Unallocated

How do I claim that unallocated space? I thought it was dynamic in virtual
server settings up to 16GB shouldn't it claim this space automatically?

Remember the host running Virtal Server doesn't know anything about the
structure on a VHD. It could be FAT, NTFS, a Linux file system, or even a
raw partition directly access by custom applications, so there is no way to
determine what is not allocated based on disk structures. Dynamic is
essentialy a compressed disk, so to get the maximum compression the unused
sectors need to be set to a highly compressible value...zeroes, or some
constant.

Virtual PC SP1 has a utility to zero unused blocks on a Windows disk. It's
an ISO image of a CD. Run the utility program on the CD to zero unallocated
blocks, then shut doen the virtual machine and use the VS disk wizard to
compress it.

So, first of all, and offense to JAck, but you can completely ignore his
post as his answer doesn't have anything to do with your problem.

My answer to your original post still applies here, all you've done is
to prove that I was correct. When you installed the OS (which will be
XP, 2000 or 2003 since you're using Disk Management) you chose to create
a 7.81 GB partition, which is your C drive leaving 8.18 GB of
unallocated space as shown above.
You can create an additional volume in the unallocated space, but that
won't change the size of your C drive, it will just give you more space
and an additional drive letter.
If you need your C drive to be bigger, you're going to have to find some
software that will allow you to grow the current partition into the
unallocated space. Something like Partion Magic.
The 16 Gb you specified when creating the virtual hard drive simply
means that whatever OS you install into the virtual machine will see a
16 Gb hard drive. If you choose to partition that into smaller chunks,
well, that's what the OS will see. Same was when you buy a new physical
hard disk.
