Any way around this?

Processor Functionality" checkbox in the Hyper-V Settings for the given VM.
you could also examine the number of logical processors assigned to the VM.

Hi, All 3 Hyper-V servers are running Win 2k8 Ent x64.
The VM i want to move is running Win 2003 Enterprise Edtion 32Bit

The Original Hyper-V server has got 2 CPU's (1 physical)
The destination has got 8 CPU's (2 physical)

The "Limit Processor Functionality" is not checked... will it help if i stop
the VM?

Current host has got a Athlon 4600+ CPU
Destination has got Dual Xeon CPU

abd destination host got a warning msg "Virtualization Service Status:
Upgrade Available"

Destination is a newly installed Hyper-V Server

So all Xeon vm's and Athlon VM's will have to work separate... No way around
it...

So i will have to recreate my VM now on AMD on the Xeon Server... That suck!

How about Xeon and normal intel compatibility?

Ok, just got a work around recommended by Microsoft while they are looking
into the issue is to Export and Import using Hyper-V.

It is definatly pissible to migrate between the diffrent CPU brands but
sometime you need to boot down the operating system...(Which i have tried)

Ok, if you are trying this i came across 2 issues:
Firstly you must export it in Hyper-V directly to the destination
location...So create a share on new host server and export it directly there.

Then you have to edit a file if you get the following:

failed to import the virtual machine from import directory Error: One or
more arguments are invalid(0x80070057)

I had the same problem. Could not migrate a VM between Virtual Server 2005R
and HyperV and got the same Processor Error message.

The solution to thie problem is as follows:

- De-install the VM-Additions from the VM
- Shutdown the VM

Now you can migrate the VM from a VS2005 server to HyperV.
