My Google-foo isn't working this morning, but can you use the Windows 2008
x64 w/out Hyper V media and then add the RTM version of Hyper V afterwards?
Reason I ask is that I'm trying to figure out what media I have to start out
with to make this all work. Thanks in advance.

without hyper-v? It's a different SKU, and I thought it wouldn't allow
hyper-v.

I could be wrong (and Thomas certainly thinks so), but I believe you need
the RTM version that is not "w/o Hyper-V". Even though you're going to have
to add the RTM version of Hyper-V to it, my understanding was that you need
to start with the version that includes Hyper-V in order to add it. No need
to install the role, however, before adding the RTM bits for Hyper-V.

Seriously, the difference in cost between the two editions is trivial. Buy
the one with hyper-v in it, and be done with it. That works, we all know it
works, and it's the correct product.

Couple of reasons...

1) Didn't have the W2K8 Hyper V iso downloaded and already had the one w/out

2) When I read the KB article I got confused because it said that it
included then technology fox x64.

Not to mention the hyper-V sku is only a very little extra cost, and
just because it's a hyper-V sku, you don't have to install the Hyper-V
role if you don't want to use it yet.

My understanding of the question and yours seems to differ!

If you have the "windows server without Hyper-V" media, then I don't
think you can subsequently add Hyper-V to it.
