Hi Guys,

I have 2 virtual machines running on Vista and when I try to start the
second machine i get

XXXXXX could not be started because there is not enough physical memory or
system resources available.

I have looked on the internet but nothing seems to fix it. Anyhelp would be
most helpful.

Obviously your out of memory, one common problem I've seen is that when
setting up the VMs we assign all the memory and forget that the Host machine
needs some memory available as well. Everything works fine till we go to
start the last machine and the available memory isn't what you've specified
for the machine due to the host using some.

Which flavor of Vista? 32 or 64 bit?

If I'm not mistaken the 32 bit version has the same memory limitation of all
the other 32 bit Window OSs, eg can only access 4GB of memory. If that's the
case you are running into the problem I described before.

If you have 8GB of RAM, you NEED a 64bit client OS to use it. Some
32bit server OSes will use 8GB also (W2K3Ent for example).

It may be showing 8 GB in an informational screen, but it's only actually
using 4GB. Nor can it use more. That's all you get. (And you don't really
get that much, since some of the memory address space needs to be reserved
for PCI cards and such.)

you may be correct about NUMA - I don't have access to one. But in the case
of the OP and his question, the problem was he's running a 32-bit version of
Windows and it only sees 4 GB of RAM. ;) Also, he's not running Server, he's
running Vista and this is a Virtual Server question, not a hyper-v one.
