Host machine loses network configuration

Hi all.

I have installed Virtual Server 2005 and succesfully configured a Virtual
Machine running Windows 2003 Server R2. Everything goes fine till I setup the
network on the Virtual Machine.
If I configure a Virtual Network to share the Host physical NIC Card, I lose
networking functionality in the Host machine, not being able to remotelly
control it from the administration console.

The virtual network is configured to use a network adapter in the physical
computer. The MAC Address is configured as Dynamic.

Any Ideas will be appreciated.

I have exactly the same problem as described above, once I setup the virtual network controller to connect to the physical network controller, the host server looses all network connectivity.

As far as I know my drivers are up to date...

We have had the same problem with a Dell Poweredge 2950 host for the past 3
or 4 months. It is installed with Windows 2003 R2 and acts solely as an MS
Virtual Server Platform, with VS2005 R2 Enterprise installed.
The host is connected to our school network using the 2 onboard Broadcom
NetExtremeII NICs, 1 of which (NIC#1) is connected into the virtual server
system. Both NICs have static addresses at this time, though the problem
initially started when NIC#2 had a DHCP controlled address.

With a restart of the host server both NICs function correctly and as
expected, however when I turn on the virtual servers (4x Windows 2003 R2
servers) NIC#1 loses all connection, as far as the host is concerned.
The host will refuse to see or contact the network, as will the network fail
to contact the hosts IP address on that NIC. The host will talk on the other
NIC but not as a named thing, only via the IP address, all domain related
traffic demands use of NIC#1, thus the server when used cannot be used with a
domain account only the local one.

The guests function faultlessly and will talk to the rest of our school
domain but the host platform refuses to do so throwing up ID 1053 errors by
the hundreds.
Having consulted with Dell I have ruled out hardware as an issue, whilst
replaced cables and alternate ports on the network switch have ruled out
network related issues. I read on another forum that the problem may be
related to IPMI on the Broadcom controller, but having now turned off IPMI
with no success I am at a loss as to how to proceed.

If anyone has any suggestions they will be gratefully accepted.
