Error 1054 (Userenv) since Migration to hyperv

Hi,
I was migrating a SBS 2003 to a HyperV-Host (Win2k8, RTM). The guest was
getting drive-imaged, hyper-v tools installed on the Win2k8 RTM-Version.
I am using the "Microsoft Virtual Machine bus Network" NIC & drivers in the
SBS 2003 guest. I am getting an error 1054 recorded by Userenv in the
Eventlog "Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your computer
network. (An unexpected network error occurred). Group Policy processing
aborted."

The underlying host-system is dual quadcore Intel. The SBS 2003 guest has 3
GB RAM and 4 CPUs assigned.

Network-Connectivity seems to be ok.

I've seen similar posts: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=391655
which seemed to by AMD specific and a German post

which seemed to be a problem of upgrading the virtual integration tools from

Is anybody having the same issues? Any ideas how to solve?

Windows Server 2003 x86 (VMs configured with 1- or 2 virtual processors SMP
only)
Windows Server 2003 Standard x86 Edition with Service Pack 2

Maybe the problem was to assign 4 virtual cpus - instead of the supported
2??

I will reboot tonight....

Hm - I have reduced the number of vCPUs to 2. I am still getting the Userenv
1054 error every 5 minutes.

Any idea?

Frank, Thank you! you are correct...
I had previously tried the /usepmtimer switch without success--but reading
your post prompted me to double check my boot.ini file: I had added the
switch to the recovery console line of my boot.ini file... no chance that was
going to work :)

After moving the /usepmtimer switch to the correct line, I was successful at
running multiple processors using Hyper-V with Server 2003. Again thanks!

I had some problems when I first installed a Windows 2003 server VM
until I installed Legacy Network cards. Once they were installed al
was ok. You'll need to shut down the guest, then go to settings, ad
the legacy cards, then restart the VM
