STOP 0x0000007E - VMNetSrv

Source: microsoft.public.virtualserver
Sent: 06/11/2008
From: Steven Berkovitz
Message:

Hi there,

We have a Windows 2003 Enterprise R2 x64 environment running Virtual Server
2005 R2 SP1.

We have been experiencing an issue with the NICS (two NICS in a Team) where
intermittently, the server will stop responding to network requests. From
the server itself you can still ping the loopback address, but it can't reach
any external resources. Other server cannot reach this server.

When trying to disable the NIC's, the server will hang and require a reboot.

We have suspected that the issue is related to Virtual Server, and recently
received a BSOD while trying to shutdown the server after this hang was
encountered (we always try a graceful shutdown first).

I have included below the output of the WINDBG !analyze -v. When digging
into the exception details (.exr), the exception is an Access violation
(c0000005) trying to read from 0xffffffffffffffff, which is obviously invalid
and leads me to beleive this might be a bug in VmNetSrv.sys.

Is this a known issue?

BugCheck 7E, {ffffffffc0000005, fffffade5ae31578, fffffade5ba94850,
fffffade5ba94260}

YSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (7e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Arguments:
Arg1: ffffffffc0000005, The exception code that was not handled
Arg2: fffffade5ae31578, The address that the exception occurred at
Arg3: fffffade5ba94850, Exception Record Address
Arg4: fffffade5ba94260, Context Record Address
