VMRCplus installation problems

Message:

I just wanted to share some insight I got today after struggling with
a VS2005R2SP1 installation.
Because the PC we installed on was not allowed to run a webserver we
could not use the admin website and we had to disable the web
component in VS2005 setup. This is OK, I have it like this at home
too.
But then we will need VMRCplus to administer the virtual server so we
installed that too. Installation went smooth....

The problem happened when we tried to run VMRCplus, it immediately
showed a Windows exception box with no information other than a long
hex code value and never showed a user form...

After much testing with installing various versions of VS2005 and
VMRCplus and even enabling IIS as a last resort all with the same
error we finally googled the exact error message and found the reason:

In order for VMRCplus to actually work DotNetFramework 2 must be
installed on the PC!
Since this is such a showstopper I am amazed that Microsoft chose not
to check for DotNetFramework in the installer for VMRCplus! We would
never have done it this way, we would have checked and then failed the
install with a message that it was missing.

Wonder why Microsoft in its wisdom does these things so sloppily, this
is not the first instance of similar behaviour.

Anyway, by posting here I hope someone else may benefit and not need
to scratch their heads as much as we did today...
