multiple nic

Message:

I have two nic's in my PC. A intel PRO/100 VE and a 1GB D-Link DGE-530
adapter. I am running DOS VMs in VS on a WinXP host. The host and guest are
connected by MS loopback adapter. Both VMs contain a Dos app that accesses a
data drive on one of the VMs. The VMs are networked to the host in order to
provide disk management from the host. The network protocol used to connect
the VMs together and to the host is NetBeui. The host is connected to the
Internet via PRO/100. When a VM accesses the VM with the data drive, reading
a 1.5 meg file is very poor.

The VS is currently setup for 2 networks, the loopback adapter, and the
D-Link. At one time, the VS included the PRO/100 as a network (however
producing the slowest results). From the host, the Loopback adapter and the
D-Link have TCP\IP disabled; VM network and NetBeui are enabled. The PRO/100
has TCP\IP enabled; VM network and NetBeui disabled. Activating the VM's
network adapters and the resulting file transfer rates are as follows: D-Link
only slowest, D-Link and Loopback next fastest, Loopback alone is fastest.

Is there anything else I can do to improve my file transfer rate? I read
that multiple nic setup best and I have another D-Link adapter, but
installing it did not seem to matter so I took it out. Did I set up the
system incorrectly? Is the problem the host OS? Recommendations are welcomed.
