VHDmount, can it be used to connect a new vhd disk?

Message:

Specifically:
Can VHDmount be used to mount a VPC2007 VHD disk as a drive on the
host system (XP Pro SP2)? I have failed doing this with both a newly
created dynamically expanding VHD drive and an existing VHD with
Win2000 installed. None of the mount attempts worked. :-(

What I want to do is to make it possible to store a large image file
(Acronis) to an epmty VHD disk so that it can then be attached as disk
2 to a new guest with an empty primary disk. Then by booting the
Acronis CD it should be possible to restore to disk 1 from the image
on disk 2 and use the Universal Restore to iron out the hardware
issues when doing P2V.

But to do this I have first to mount the VHD disk on my host system so
I can copy in the image file....
Or use the mounted drive as the target for the image file while
imaging the disk with Acronis.

Stepwise, please.

PS: I tried vhdmount /p <path to>\<empty vhd file>
But it just displayed a message that it had failed plugging in the vhd
disk. :-(
