Hello

Host:Windows XP SP2 with VIrtual Server R2 Sp1
HP NC6320 with VT enabled
Guest : many 2003.

The VM are all on a Firewire connected 2"5 HDD.

I encounter multiple VMM.SYS BSOD.
Never had any problem with vmware with the same HDD..

Please, is it a problem with XP, with the fireware, with the notebook , what?
I hesitate to reinstall my notebook with 2003 R2 server.
I've a session to do in the techday and well, a BSOD won't help ^^

in fact, I run many VM simultneously. I have loopback NIC for routing etc..
advanced LAB in one word.

I deactivated VT in bios, and no crash since then.. I'll come back here to
confirm if this option changed the situation.

But I'll update the NIC driver also. If it crash again, I'll install windows
2003 and just VS for the techdays ^^ (I'll install w2008 Hyper-V as soon as I
got a copy :) I just hope it crash before the Techday !

Sounds like either a driver conflict or something's wrong with the
Virtual Server install.

You can test if it's the external drive that's the problem by copying
one of the .vhd's from the firewire drive to a local drive and see if
it acts the same.

If you have no other VM's running on that machine, I'd uninstall
Virtual Server and reinstall it if it's not the firewire drive that's
the problem. Make sure your NIC driver is up to date too.

That could well be all of it, and can only be fixed by an updated
BIOS. (other than turning it off like you did) It'd be better to just
leave it off until one is available. Hyper-V will probably have the
same problem.
