Remote logon to SBS 2000 on Virtual Server 2005

Message:

Basic problem - I want to allow remote logon to a Small Business
Server 2000 installation running on Virtual Server 2005. Win XP Pro is
the host OS.

The host PC is connected to Internet via Linksys WAG200G Gateway/
Router with fixed IP addresss and set up for VPN pass through.

SBS 2000 can access internet in the current config.

SBS 2000 and Host are all on same subnet

I have successfully set up a VPN connection that functions from within
the local (SOHO) network but when I try to make the connection from
outside by attempting a connection via the fixed external IP address,
it just times out with an "authenticating user and password " message.
This sounds like a Gateway/Router issue to my unknowlegeable self but
there are limited configuration options in the WAG200g and I believe I
have slected the correct VPN pass through options.

What are the configuration issues I need to address?

I hope this is the appropriate forum for this naive question from a
very NON guru person.

Rgds

Simon
