Hi,

I am running Virtual server 2005 R2 SP1 on Windows server 2003 with one
single NIC card.

The Host server IP : 192.168.0.100 /24 G.W : 192.168.0.1- DSL router
I need to configure the Guest OS Windows 2k3 on it's own subnet :
192.168.1.100 /24 and able to access Host server and internet )

How do I do this ?

Waht is the purpose of Virtual network ? Can we assign IP subnet to Virtual
net work ?

Thanks for your quick reply Bill,

I did the following

Install the Loopback on the host server ad assign the IP: 192.168.1.100 and
install RRAS on the Host server for routing. Created the Virtual network and
linked to Loopback adapter on the host.

Assign the IP : 192.168.1.111 to my guest VM with d.gateway point to :
192.168.1.100

Now I can ping/access host server and VM back and forth, but I cannot access
internet from my guest OS

DNS server are correct , I can access Internet from Host server.

Waht I am doing wrong here .

If you put the guest in its own IP subnet it will not be able to see the
host or the Internet, no matter what network you connect it to. That is how
IP subnets are. Nothing to do with Virtual Server.

If you run your vms in their own IP subnet you need a router to connect
to the host's network. If you run them on a loopback virtual network you
can route through the host. If you run them on an internal virtual network
you can route through a vm (with one NIC in the internal network, one linked
to the physical NIC of the host).

I Did installed RRAS and NAt on the host server ( 192.168.0.100), I can't
still ping the DSL gateway 192.168.0.1 from the VM box ( 192.168.1.111), but
I can access the host server and also able to ping the host server IP (
192.168.0.100 ) from the VM box .
