Strange mouse/keyb behaviour when upgrading XP

Source: microsoft.public.virtualpc
Sent: 01/27/2009
From: Bo Berglund <(email address - cut out)>
Message:

I have a guest which I am using to check the behaviour when performing
a stepwise upgrade. I intended to go this path:
1- XP-Home
2- XP-Home + SP2
3- Upgrade to XP-Pro
4- XP-Pro SP3

I am now at step 3 where I have used an MSDN DVD with XP-Pro SP2 and
install as a repair on top of the XP-Home installation.
All has been running well until I reach the step where setup is
preparing settings for the continued installation and shows the
Localized settings dialogue.
At this time I wanted to click Next, but the mouse does not work
inside the guest!
Then I tried the keyboard as a second way out, but that did not work
either.
I reset the virtual machine and it restarted the same process again
but got stuck at the same place. It is like there is a glass sheet on
top of the guest so I cannot reach it with my mouse.

What can I do to handle this behaviour?
