Connecting DOS (VPC) with Linux (VMWare)

Source: microsoft.public.virtualpc

From: "Jack" <(email address - cut out)>
Message:

There are quite a few problems with this setup
1) I have created VMNet2 for Linux Server
2) I have created VMNet3 for MS-DOS Client
3) In Linux, I typed setup > network config > use
static IP with subnet mask 255.255.0.0 and
gateway = my host Computer (XP)
4) I have set the firewall under Linux to exclude
eth0 and telnet
5) I have set the firewall under XP for all the nodes
to allow VMWare and VPC flow between them
6) Under DOS, I have set disableDHCP=1
that means I wanted to use static IP
7) Under DOS, I have set the nameserver =
192 168 x x which is my Linux server address
8) Under Clarkson Telnet, I have added a line for the
nameserver which is the Linux server address
9) I found that I couldn't use the same address for
the VMNet2 and Linux Server
which are
192.168.x.y(VMNet2) and 192.168.x.y+1(Server)
10) I could ping 127.0.0.1 but couldn't ping its own (Linux Server)
11) All DNS servers are set to my XP system

12) How do I check IP address under Linux?
13) How to specify hostnames in XP and Linux?

Coffee Break!
Thanks
Jack
