Networking trouble using RDP to VPC

Source: microsoft.public.virtualpc

Message:

Hi,

I have a VPC guest O/S (Win2k3) which I need to have connect to my
office using a VPC connection. The VPN connection requires the use of a
smartcard reader. VPC does not support reading a smartcard reader that
is plugged into the host computer. The workaround that is commonly cited
on the Internet is to use a remote desktop connection (mstsc.exe) to log
into the guest O/S and the USB smartcard is passed through to the guest
O/S.

I am able to successfully log into my guest O/S using the Virtual PC
client and my domain credentials, presumably because the credentials are
cached. All networking activities work as expected.

When I try to log into my guest O/S using a Remote Desktop connection
and my domain credentials, it fails, with the following message:

The system cannot log you on due to the following error: The specified
domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.

When I try to log into my guest O/S using a Remote Desktop connection
and local administrator credentials, I am able to successfully log in.
However, I cannot access any Internet resources (no Google, MSN, etc.).
I am able to ping them.

What's really weird, is that if I have logged into the guest O/S, using
the Virtual PC console and Remote Desktop connection (so I have both
windows open at the same time), Internet networking works in the Virtual
PC console connection, but not in the Remote Desktop connection.

Any ideas on how to fix?

-Michael
