I successfully installed a VMC running Windows Server 2003 with a CRM 4.0
Demo Database vhd file. It started to boot up and got all the way to the end
where the "Press CTL + ALT + DELETE to logon" message appears. However, when
I did this, the Windows Task Manager popped up. I closed every possible
program in Task Manager but still got the Task Manager poping up when I
pressed CTL + ALT+ Delete. The host is Windows XP Pro, SP3 computer. The
computer has a Pentium 4 Processor running at 3.0 MGHZ with 1.8 MB of RAM.
There is 37 MB free hard drive space. How can I get the CTL + ALT + Delete to
give me access to the logon screen?

Use <Right-Alt> - <Del> if you've got U.S. keyboard, or <AltGr>-<Del>
That sends a <Ctrl>-<Alt>-<Del> to the VM. (or just chose the menu
item <Ctrl>-<Alt>-<Del>)

It's in the help -- search for Host key.

The ONLY way that the logon will work is to select the keys from the Actions
menu. Neither the right nor left keyboard CTL ALT Delete keys work (get the
Task Manager popping up). This is the kind of Microsoft logic that drives
people crazy!!!!

By the way, I am a new Microsoft Partner. I was recruited to be a CRM 4.0
Certified Partner since I have been a Sage Partner for many years with Sales
Logix and ACT! My recruiter is Sean Britt. Becasue I am new to Microsoft
tools, I have no idea what VM Ware and Parallels are. To me, not being able
to use ALT+CTRL+Delete is illogical since it us an industry standard
unlocking command. Also, since I have been using the latter for more than 15
years, it would be easy to miss the post info. Sorry I am so ignorant.

No, not <Ctrl> <Alt>, just <Alt>

<Ctrl><Alt><Del> is reserved for the host, so a VM can't use it, so
it's got to be different, and they do it by having a <Host> key +
modifier. The Default <Host> key is <Right Alt>, so to send a
<Ctrl><Alt><Del> to a VM, you need <Host><Del>, or more precisely,
<Right Alt><Del> if you haven't changed the <Host> key default.

It can't. Virtual machines require a different keystroke combination
because how else can the host operating system determine where the
ctrl+alt+del should be applied? Also, a VM capturing ctrl+alt+del
would break a lot of security measures designed into Windows.

example, the System Request key), because on the PC platform no
program could reasonably expect to redefine this keystroke combination

for the fast responses and excelent guidance. FACE's historical perspective
was especially good. Now that I am a Microsoft Partner, it is obvious that I
must stop my long tiem practice of ignoring READ ME's. Most of them from
other companies can be rather worthless!

In a lot of ways, Virtual Machines are just like real machines, but
it's the differences because it's running on top of another OS are
hard to get your mind around, but once you do, it's actually pretty
