VPC and VSS - VSS hangs

I have seen a couple posts about this and have not found a working
solution to the problem.

I created a VPC. I added VS 2008 and VSS 2005. The VPC virtual hard
drive is set to expand as necessary.

When I installed VSS, I set the temporary files to write to a local
directory

I was able to get the latest copy of my project using VSS. It takes a
VERY long time. When I open the project in VS 2008 the project is not
under source control. No messages about appearing to be under source
control or anything.

When I open the project from Source Control, VS 2008 hangs. Nothing
happens on the status bar. Nothing shows up in the Solution. I have
let it sit for 45 Minutes without a change.

I saw somewhere that VSS doesn't check to see if there is room on the
drive. Could that be the problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
